What is field notes?

I KINDA hate instagraM.

The idea behind FIELD NOTES actually came about because I was really struggling to figure out how to be a human on Instagram.

I really don't like Instagram. I think it adds about 0.000001% of value to my life. But I will admit that it has helped me connect with new artists and collaborators to the benefit of my business. For the longest time though I didn't know how to be a user.

I never wanted to be a content marketer. I don't want to stage photo shoots and take pics of me looking like I don't give a shit about anything. I just want to make and share art. As well as help others do the same.

So... I started FIELD NOTES. It was kind of like a mini blog for my Instagram. I would share these short segments on my story on topics I thought interesting and that would perhaps add a little bit of value to someone else's life in my community of followers. It turns out FIELD NOTES is really the only thing I've ever done on Instagram that made me feel good and people started to respond so I kept going.

Now I'm turning FIELD NOTES into a more long form blog. Why? Well, I am a researcher at heart and I love diving deep into new topics and learning something new. Instagram is not really a platform built for users to dive deep into anything so I'm pivoting to here. If you really knew me you'd know that I am constantly looking for tiny bits of information to cross-reference and compute up there in my brain computer all for the purpose of discovering truth. I am a truth-seeker. And maybe just maybe through this blog I can be a truth-sharer in the music industry. But please have grace guys because I am not always right.

I plan to cover a lot of different topics on this blog all revolving around the central goal of discovering how to build an independent career in music without losing ones humanity. Not as someone who has done it and totally arrived, but as someone who is currently doing it and plans to keep going for a very long time.

Thanks for listening.
